Bill Kaman – A Life in Music
Bill Kaman has been immersed in music and musical instruments his entire life.
As a teenager he spent his school holidays on the production line of Ovation, the revolutionary fibreglass round back guitar designed in the mid-60s by his late father, helicopter pioneer Charles H Kaman. After graduating college with an economics degree Bill worked in guitar design and production, eventually taking the reins of the fledgling Kaman Music Corporation, steering the fortunes of some the world’s most iconic and coveted musical instrument brands, including Ovation, Adamas, Takamine and Hamer guitars, Gretsch Drums and Trace Elliot amplifiers.
In almost 3 decades under his guidance KMC grew into the USA’s largest manufacturer/distributor of music products. Following a brief sideways step as CEO of AirKaman, a subsidiary of KMC’s Aerospace parent company, Bill left the organisation that still bears his name to concentrate on his first passion; making music, rather than making guitars.
Bill has recorded two projects at 6 String Ranch and is currently working on a third. He is an active songwriter and plays regularly in Austin and the Hill Country.
